Using this agent we can monitor system metrics, services, and processes on the target machine using the Windows Server configuration Wizard. This agent must be installed on the target Windows Machine\/Server. In this scenario, Nagios core is installed on a CentOS machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b><i>Part A<\/i><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/blog-2-1-1024x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4771\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/blog-2-1-1024x460.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/blog-2-1-300x135.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/blog-2-1-768x345.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/blog-2-1.jpg 1840w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Please follow the steps below to install the agent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Windows Monitoring Agent installation: NSClient++<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Log on to the Windows target server and download the latest version of NSClient++ software as per the system Architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i>Link for download: <\/i><i>https:\/\/nsclient.org\/download\/<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"615\" height=\"398\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/fig-1-windows.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4760\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/fig-1-windows.jpg 615w, https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/fig-1-windows-300x194.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Step 1 : Once downloaded the package. Double click on the installer. You will see a setup wizard like below and click on Next button to proceed with the installation. See the below image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 2: On the next screen, go ahead and select \u2018Generic\u2019 and Click on \u2018Next\u2019 button. We are going to monitor the Win service using the <b>check_nt<\/b> module. You will need to open the file using notepad++ or with a normal text editor. Here we can see the allowed_host and password that was given at the time of installation. So you can restart the NSclient++ from the \u2018Service console under Administrative Tools. See the image below.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"621\" height=\"402\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/fig-8-windows.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4767\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/fig-8-windows.jpg 621w, https:\/\/www.supportpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/fig-8-windows-300x194.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 621px) 100vw, 621px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Open Port in Firewall<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure the following port that need to be open can be accessed from the Nagios XI server:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li aria-level=\"1\">TCP port 12489 for NSClientServer [Windows Server and enable ICMP]<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The client-side installation and configuration is over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Testing:<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You could test the agent installation using the following command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Logon to the Nagios Core machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>cd: \/usr\/lib\/nagios\/plugins<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>#.\/check_nt -H 192.168.1.201 -s password -p 12489 -v UPTIME<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>System Uptime &#8211; 33 day(s) 22 hour(s) 38 minute(s) |uptime=48878<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p># .\/check_nt -H 192.168.1.201 -s password -p 12489 -v MEMUSE -w 80 -c 90<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Memory usage: total:2047.63 MB &#8211; used: 1306.77 MB (64%) &#8211; free: 740.86 MB (36%) | &#8216;Memory usage&#8217;=1306.77MB;1638.10;1842.86;0.00;2047.63<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the agent installation works well. We can go ahead and configure the Service monitoring in <b>Nagios Core Server<\/b> [Linux].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b><i>Part B<\/i><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Setup in Nagios core monitoring server:<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Login to Nagios monitoring server to add the new server for monitoring. The host files are located at : \/usr\/local\/nagios\/etc\/objects<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to add a new server.&nbsp; You may need to make a copy of &#8216;windows.cfg&#8217; to &#8216;desired_name.cfg&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>[root@monitor objects]# ll windows.cfg<\/p><p>-rw-r&#8211;r&#8211; 1 root root 3989 Mar 20&nbsp; 2021 windows.cfg<\/p><p>[root@monitor objects]#<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Then replace \u2018address\u2019 with the new server IP address : 192.168.1.202 like below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p># Define a host for the Windows machine we&#8217;ll be monitoring<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p># Change the host_name, alias, and address to fit your situation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>define host{<\/p><p>use &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; windows-server&nbsp; ; Inherit default values from a template<\/p><p>host_name &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; WIN-example.com&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; ; The name we&#8217;re giving to this host<\/p><p>alias &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; WIN-Test &nbsp; ; A longer name associated with the host<\/p><p>address&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 192.168.1.202 ; IP address of the host<\/p><p>}<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Then check the configuration using :&nbsp; \/usr\/local\/nagios\/bin\/nagios -v \/usr\/local\/nagios\/etc\/nagios.cfg.
